A woman from Knoxville, Tennessee, lost her life in a tragic Oak Ridge car crash. The collision happened on Monday afternoon at approximately 3:22 p.m. Three others were injured in the accident.
According to Oak Ridge police, a Toyota van being driving by a different woman from Knoxville was traveling southbound along S. Illinois Avenue not far from Centrifuge Way, when it crossed over into oncoming traffic. At this time, authorities do not know why the car moved into the oncoming lanes.
The Toyota van collided head-on with an oncoming Mazda sport utility vehicle being driven by a man from Knoxville. Another vehicle, a Ford Focus being driven by an Oak Ridge woman, also hit the Toyota van.
The Mazda SUV ended up turning over as a result of the crash, and another woman from Knoxville who was riding as a passenger in the Mazda suffered fatal injuries. Rescue workers rushed her to the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, but doctors were unable to save her and she was pronounced dead at the hospital. The drivers of all three cars involved in the crash were also injured and required hospital care.
The automobile wreck caused the road to be closed for over two hours so that police could complete their investigations into how it may have occurred. In any fatal accident that happens in Tennessee, police evidence collected during investigations after the crash could serve to support wrongful death claims, which family members of the deceased may wish to pursue. In some cases, even if police evidence does not appear to support a wrongful death claim in a particular accident, family members may wish to pursue their own independent investigations into the incident.
