For one family, merely being in the wrong spot at the wrong time has led to tragedy as they become the victims of a car wreck. A young boy injured in the Tennessee car wreck later died from his injuries. The driver who hit the vehicle he was in was arrested and faces a number of charges, including drunk driving.
The accident occurred as a 27-year-old man was driving north. He reportedly blacked out and crossed into the other lane. As he did so, he hit another vehicle carrying a number of people.
One person injured is still in serious shape and another is listed as recovering. An 18-month-old baby in the vehicle came out of the crash unscathed, save for a scratch. However, a 13-year-old boy died a few days after suffering critical injuries in the crash. The driver who hit them wasn’t injured despite not wearing a seatbelt at the time, but he was arrested on charges of reckless driving, DUI, vehicular assault, and vehicular homicide.
The charges faced by the man who apparently caused the accident could yield serious consequences in a Tennessee criminal court. However, regardless of the outcome of a criminal trial, the family of the young boy who died has the legal right to pursue civil litigation against the driver. If successful in a civil lawsuit against the driver, they may be awarded monetary damages that could help alleviate any financial strain the car wreck may have caused, such as medical bills and funeral costs.
